This program supports the establishment and maintenance of a distributed testing ecosystem through which communities can gain assurance regarding the security, usability, privacy and efficacy (S-U-P-E)-related performance of mobile applications that are designed, developed and operated to support contact tracing and exposure notification (CT/EN) functions used by public health organizations to help track the spread of infectious diseases. |
Verified Information Exchange Environments This crowd-sourced, interdisciplinary research program frames the global information environment as a form of 'market' that needs exchange protocols and local standards, which can de-risk, reduce volatility, and increase trust in digital information transactions. |

University of Washington to Help DHS Develop COVID-19 Digital Contact Tracing App Testing Criteria DHS Science + Technology Public Affairs During the current COVID-19 pandemic there are many efforts to apply smartphone-based technologies to automate the contact tracing and exposure notification process. APL-UW is tasked to bring together a group of experts and trusted entities to develop digital contact tracing (DCT) application (app) testing criteria, as well as explore and develop policy considerations for the use of this technology to ensure privacy and civil liberties are protected now and in the future. |
